Dobyns-Bennett selects Francis to lead girls' basketball program

Staff Report • Jun 24, 2014 at 6:25 PM

Kingsport City Schools have selected Bill Francis to lead the Lady Indians basketball program at Dobyns-Bennett High School. Francis will serve as head coach, effective immediately.

"We are very excited about Coach Francis' vision on where he will lead the girls program in the future," said D-B Athletic Director Cary Daniels.

Coach Francis' experience includes four years as the assistant boys' basketball coach; two years as the freshman boys' basketball coach; and, for the past four years, the boys' junior varsity basketball coach and varsity assistant coach - all at Dobyns-Bennett.

He currently serves as a science teacher at Robinson Middle School. Francis graduated from Florida State University with an associate of arts degree in April 1994 and from Florida A&M University with a bachelor of science in ornamental horticulture in August 1994.

Francis replaces Roger France who resigned in May after 34 years in coaching, including 18 at the helm for the Lady Indians.

"I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to lead the Lady Indians basketball program," said Francis. "Coach France has left the program in great shape and I look forward to building on that foundation. I would like to express a sincere thank you to Dr. (Lyle) Ailshie, Dr. (Chris) Hampton and Cary Daniels for their confidence in me as both a teacher and coach."
