Gate City sweeps Conference 40 tennis awards

Gate City swept the top awards on the Conference 40 boys and girls All-Confernce tennis teams announced on Tuesday.

Gate City's Rosa Smith, who won the VHSL 2A girls state singles championship and helped lead the Lady Blue Devils to their eighth state team title, was named the girls player of the year.

The Blue Devils Peyton Palmer earned boys player of the year honors.

Gate City's Delonda Spivey was named the girls coach of the year with the Blue Devils Steven Shockley the boys coach of the year.
