Dobyns-Bennett's Logan Gentry, Payton Marshall and Sammy Salyers will play college baseball

KINGSPORT — Dobyns-Bennett baseball players Logan Gentry, Payton Marshall and Sammy Salyers all signed letters of intent on Thursday to continue their careers at the collegiate level.

Gentry signed with East Tennessee State, Marshall with Walters State and Salyers with Catawba Valley Community College.

As a senior, Gentry finished with a 10-0 record on the mound with a .98 ERA over 79 innings pitched. He struck out 81 and walked only 12 batters.

At the plate, Gentry hit .314 with three home runs and 28 RBIs.

In 2014 he was named the District 1-AAA player of the year as well as the Johnson City Press Super 22 player of the year. Gentry was an all-state selection in 2013.

Over his three-year career at D-B, Gentry had a 22-4 record as a pitcher.

Marshall batted .409 as a senior with 15 doubles, three triples and eight home runs. He added 36 RBIs, 41 runs, 21 stolen bases and a .809 slugging percentage.

Additionally, Marshall was All-Big 7 Conference in 2013 and '14 and was selected to the JC Press Super 22 this past season.

Salyers, a catcher, batted .296 as a senior with 23 walks and a .422 on base percentage. He also scored 32 runs.

Salyers had a .988 fielding percentage with 224 putouts and only 3 errors in his career.
