Science Hill claims five of the six postseason honors in East Tennessee swimming and diving

JOHNSON CITY — Regional champion Science Hill earned five of the six East Tennessee Regional Swimming and Diving awards announced on Thursday.

The Hilltoppers Daniel Chang was named male swimmer of the year. He won the regional 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle events and was a state runnerup in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.

Lady Hilltoppers senior Tessa Wilson earned female swimmer of the year honors after winning regional titles in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. She also finished third at the state meet in the 100 backstroke, was fifth in the 50 free and swam a leg on Science Hill’s state champion 200 medley relay team.

The male diver of the year was Science Hill’s Sutton Coffey. He was third in the regional diving competition and finished 13th at the state meet.

The Lady Hilltoppers Hannah Bowman was named female diver of the year. Bowman was the regional girls diving champ and finished fifth in the girls competition at the state meet.

Science Hill coach Chris Coraggio was named the girls coach of the year in East Tennessee after leading the Lady Hilltoppers to their ninth-straight regional crown. They also finished fourth in the state meet as a team.

Greeneville’s Lee Hudson, who guided the Greene Devils to a third place finish in the regional meet, earned boys regional coach of the year honors.
