Weather forces changes in NET basketball tournaments

BRISTOL, Tenn. — The specter of inclement weather has already taken a toll on postseason basketball tournaments in Northeast Tennessee.

The District 1-AAA, 1-AA and 2-AAA tournaments have all been forced to postpone Wednesday’s games and move play to Thursday, weather permitting.

In the District 1-AAA tournament at Viking Hall, boys quarterfinal games between Tennessee High and Sullivan Central along with Science Hill and Volunteer have been moved to Thursday. The Vikings take on the Cougars at 6 p.m. followed by the Hilltoppers and Falcons at 7:30.

Girls semifinal games will now be held on Friday. No. 1 Science Hill plays Daniel Boone at 6 p.m. followed by Volunteer and Dobyns-Bennett at 7:30.

The AAA boys semifinals wil be held Saturday. No. 1 Dobyns-Bennett takes on David Crockett at 4 p.m. followed by the winner of the Tennessee High/Central game against the winner of the Science Hill/Volunteer contest at 5:30 p.m.

The AAA girls consolation and championship games will be held Monday, Feb. 17 starting at 6 p.m. at Viking Hall with the boys consolation and championship matchups set for the same times on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

The District 1-AA tournament at Happy Valley has also moved its games back to Thursday for a triple-header. At 5 p.m. Sullivan East will play Sullivan North. Sullivan South meets Johnson County at 6:30 followed by Unicoi County vs. Happy Valley at 8.

Boys action in District 1-AA will now be played on Friday with South meeting Happy Valley at 5 p.m. followed by Elizabethton and North at 6:30 and Sullivan East vs. Johnson County at 8 p.m.
