GATE CITY — Homecoming at Gate City turned out to be a happy affair all the way around.
The Lady Blue Devils rebounded from Thursday night’s stunning loss at Sullivan East with an impressive 78-54 win over Lee High.
In the nightcap, the Gate City boys cruised to a 60-41 victory over the Generals.
Gate City’s girls, who had won 15 games in a row before losing to the Lady Patriots 51-47, were magnificent on the boards Friday, outrebounding the Lady Generals 46-17. The Lady Blue Devils had an astounding 26 offensive boards.
Despite that domination, coach Kelly Houseright sees room for improvement before next Friday’s Mountain District showdown at Wise Central.
“I was hoping for a little more intensity tonight,” Houseright said. “We’re still missing too many layups and free throws.”
Jordan Gose led Gate City with 19 points and nine rebounds, and Kaely Gose added 12 points and seven boards. Megan Edwards chipped in 11 points and Morgan Gose had 10 points and six rebounds for the Lady Blue Devils (18-2, 7-0).
Sam Ely led Lee (10-11, 2-6) with a game-high 24 points. Teammate Mackenzie Arney scored 11.
The Gate City boys built a 30-17 halftime lead and were up by as many as 23 during the game.
Dylan Jenkins scored 22 points to lead the Blue Devils (13-4, 7-0). John Reed Barnes hit three 3-pointers as part of his 15 points for Gate City.
Zach Eldridge led Lee (7-13, 3-5) with 14 points and six boards.
