MACON, Ga. — East Tennessee State's David Geno, the reigning Atlantic Sun men’s soccer player of the year, was named the A-Sun preseason player of the year on Thursday, and the Bucs’ Blaike Woodruff earned preseason defensive player of the year honors.
Geno, one of just two Buccaneers to start all 20 games last season, set program single-season records for goals (11), assists (8) and points (30) on the way to being named to the A-Sun All-Conference first team for the second consecutive year.
Woodruff started 15 games for the Bucs last year, assisting on five goals and anchoring a defense that had a goals against average of 0.93.
The Bucs’ Itode Fubara was also named to the preseason All-Atlantic Sun soccer team along with ETSU goalkeeper Ryan Coulter, the reigning conference goalkeeper of the year.
ETSU was picked by the A-Sun coaches to finish second in the league behind defending champion Florida Gulf Coast.
