NWTF to hold Allen Ricks Memorial JAKES day in Morristown

MORRISTOWN — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will be hosting the annual Allen Ricks Memorial National Wild Turkey Federation JAKES event on Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Region 4 Office in Morristown.

The NWTF JAKES program (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship) events are designed to help pass on the traditions of responsible hunting and teach the principles of habitat management, hunting ethics, and safety to youth ages 5-17.

The event was renamed in honor of the late TWRA Region 4 Information and Education Coordinator Allen Ricks, who was a strong supporter of the NWTF and youth outdoors events.

This year’s event is sponsored by the Three Rivers Longbeards Chapter of the NWTF as well as Atmos Energy, Morristown Trap Club, Morristown Archery Club and the TWRA.

Activities begin at 8 a.m. and include archery, air rifles, casting, skill target shooting, trap shooting and a wildlife exhibit. The cost is $10 and covers JAKES membership fees, a t-shirt, lunch, and door prizes.
