Xtreme Roan Adventures promises wild time for youngsters

ROAN MOUNTAIN — A fun-filled naturalist rally designed just for kids will get under way this weekend at Roan Mountain State Park.

Xtreme Roan Adventures, which is sponsored by the Friends of Roan Mountain, is offered to kids of all ages and costs only $4 per child (and $4 per accompanying adult).

The fun begins Friday with several activities geared toward exploring the “dark side” of nature. Friday events include an Owl Prowl, a Bats of Tennessee program, Astronomy, a Moth Party and a Nature Night Walk.

Saturday morning activities will include: Bird Banding, a Salamander Hike, a Junior Scavanger Hunt, a Junior 100-inch Hike, a Geology Hike, a program in Stream Ecology, Orienteering, Animal Tracking and an Insect Hike.

The adventure continues after lunch with: Nature Crafts, Birds of Prey, Fossil Casting, Reptiles, Owl Pellet Dissection, EarthFair Trail Mix Tent, a Butterfly Hike, an Appalachian Trail Hike and the Baatany Goat Project Hike.
