Members of the Class of 2013, the 24th class to be inducted, will bring total membership in the Hall to 241.
The Class of 2013 includes two athletes. One is Mike Milchin, an alumnus J.R. Tucker High School, who was a pitcher for the the Team USA in the 1988 Olympics and eventually played in the majors for the Minnesota Twins and Baltimore Orioles. The other is Anthony Poindexter, an alumnus of Jefferson Forest, who went on to a stellar college career as a defensive back at the University of Virginia and played in the NFL for the Baltimore Ravens.
Three coaches selected for this year include soccer coach Chip Berry of E.C. Glass, basketball coach George Lancaster, Jr. of Highland Springs and football coach Jim Woodson of Powhatan. To contributors joining the Hall of Fame this year will be Cindy Bomboske, of Monacan and John Williams of Ocean Lakes.
Sponsored jointly by the Virginia High School League and the Virginia High School Coaches Association, the Hall is dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of outstanding achievements by students and adults in sports and activities within Virginia’s public high schools.
Athletes are eligible for consideration 10 years after completion of their high school careers and are judged primarily for their achievements in interscholastic sports. Coaches are eligible after 15 years of experience or upon retirement and are judged on the merits of their achievements at the high school level. Contributors are professionals who have rendered significant services in some other capacity such as administration, academic activities, officiating, media or sports medicine.
The induction dinner will be held on Monday, October 14, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Charlottesville.
