KINGSPORT — Mother Nature has poured it on Kingsport Speedway.

Significant rain this week, with more expected today, has forced the cancellation of racing this Friday.

The five-division NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will now be held next Friday, July 12.

“It’s really rained hard over the past few days and the ground is quite saturated,” said Kingsport Speedway promoter Robert Pressley. “Actually, late Wednesday afternoon water was standing over about half of the infield pits. A good bit of rain fell overnight Wednesday into midday on Thursday, and now the National Weather Service forecast is calling for even more rain on today.

“The region’s really had considerable rain over the past month and a half, and we’ve been lucky on a couple of occasions and still were able to get our racing program in. There’s just nothing you can do about Mother Nature. We’ll have our gigantic fireworks show that night also.”
