Eighth-inning rally sinks K-Mets' chances

GREENEVILLE — The Greeneville Astros piled on six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to put away the visiting Kingsport Mets 8-0 in Appalachian League action Thursday night.

Three Astros pitchers combined for the two-hit shutout, including a seven-strikeout performance by starting pitcher Jandel Gustave (1-1).

Kingsport pitchers Yoan Gonzalez (0-2) and Corey Oswalt gave up only one run apiece over the first seven innings.

Joe Tuschak and Yeixon Ruiz were the lone K-Mets hitters to collect base hits.

Alfredo Gonzalez led the Astros at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Edwin Gomez went 2-for-5 with a double. Darwin Rivera hit a solo home run in the eighth inning. Juan Santana and Tanner Mathis each had a sacrifice fly.
