UT softball staff earns Southeast Region honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — For the second consecutive season and the fifth time since 2005, the Tennessee softball coaching staff has been named National Fastpitch Coaches Association Southeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

Co-head coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly along with assistant coach Marty McDaniel, volunteer assistant coach Marc Weekly and Director of Operations Lindsay Schutzler Bell led the Lady Vols to a national runnerup finish with a 52-12 overall record.

Tennessee made its sixth Women’s College World Series appearance in the last nine years and appeared in the championship series for the second time in program history.

The Lady Vols boasted three NFCA Division I All-America first-team selections in Raven Chavanne, Lauren Gibson and Madison Shipman.

Chavanne was named the Capital One Academic All-American of he year and was a Top 3 finalist for the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year while Gibson was named the Southeastern Conference player of the year.
