Three rescued after boat capsizes below dam

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. — Three people who were thrown into the water when their boat capsized near Fort Loudoun Dam have been rescued by fishermen.

WBIR-TV in Knoxville reports 38-year-old Dustin Hooper of Madisonville, 36-year-old Brandy Runyon and 5-year-old Bralynn Runyon were all wearing life jackets and escaped with only minor injuries Wednesday evening.

The station says the three were treated at a local hospital and released.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency says the three were fishing below the dam when turbulence from the water spilling over the dam began pulling the boat into the spillway. Hooper wasn't able to get the motor started, and the boat eventually capsized.

TWRA advises caution, saying waters below dams are turbulent, especially when water is being released.
