JOHNSON CITY — After a few days to reflect upon his first championship season as East Tennessee State’s baseball coach, Tony Skole was feeling pretty good.

And who could blame him?

His team plays in a shiny new stadium, put together a 36-24 season en route to winning the Atlantic Sun Conference championship and finished its season in the NCAA tournament.

“I’m very proud of our guys,” Skole said Wednesday. “It was a great group of kids all year. They really bought into what we were trying to do. Our goal was to get better and better and play our best baseball at the end of the year, and that’s what we did.”

The Bucs saved their best for last, capturing their first A-Sun tournament championship. Even though the run ended with defeats to Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech in the NCAA tournament, it was a season that produced the third-best victory total in school history.
