Tissot drives to LM victory at Kingsport Speedway

KINGSPORT — With his absence from Victory Lane at Kingsport Speedway nearing a full year, Lee Tissot finally figured out a winning strategy on Friday night. The veteran Late Model driver simply kept his car ahead of the chaos and scored his eighth career NASCAR Whelen All-American Series win at the track.

Tissot won the pole, but was forced to start fourth when the field was inverted. It took him only six laps to get into the lead, however, and he never gave it up once he got it. Meanwhile, plenty of guys who tried to chase down Tissot ended up wrecking.

Blake Jones and Zeke Shell were reeling in Tissot around the midway point of the race when they made contact and wound up spinning out. Then on lap 50, Jones and Chad Finchum got together behind Tissot, igniting a multicar accident. Tissot finally pulled away on the last restart to capture the checkered flag.

“Finally. It took us long enough to get back into Victory Lane,” he said. “Not only do you have to have a good race car and team behind you, but you’ve also got to have some luck on your side — and we’ve had our share of bad luck this year with three races we didn’t finish.”

Shell finished second and Daniel Pope came home third. Finchum and Kres VanDyke rounded out the top five.

In the 30-lap Street Stock feature, John Harrell raced past Jared Broadbent and Rob Austin to score the win. Broadbent finished second ahead of Jason Leatherwood. Austin and Chris Tunnell completed the top five.

It was a clean sweep for the Ketron family in the Pure 4 feature. John Ketron was followed to the checkered flag by Jason Ketron and Billy Ketron. Rocky Yates won the Mod 4 race.
