Sports notes from around the region as of May 21:

• Dobyns-Bennett junior Jeremiah Sokol placed fifth Tuesday, May 21 in the TSSAA Class AAA decathlon at the SpringFling in Murfreesboro. Sokol was in eighth place after Monday’s first day of competition but closed strong to finish with 5,740 points. Centennial’s Chaz Hawkins won the event with 6,765 points.

• Dobyns-Bennett junior Adriana Watkins finished third in the TSSAA Class AAA pentathlon Monday, May 20 at the SpringFling in Murfreesboro. Northeast’s Brittany Kelly took first place with a total of 3,475 points, followed by Ridgeway’s Darraugh May (2,983) and Watkins (2,979).

• Former Dobyns-Bennett High School standout Dustin Kerns has rejoined the Wofford men’s basketball coaching staff. Kerns spent the past six seasons as an assistant at Santa Clara. Prior to that, he was an assistant at Wofford for three years.

• Tennessee High tennis coach Reedy Toney was inducted into the USPTA, Southern Division, Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 18. Toney is a former head professional at Ridgefields Country Club.

• Eastside’s Matt Green threw his second no-hitter of the year in the Spartans’ 6-0 win over Rye Cove on Thursday, May 17. Green tossed four perfect innings and walked three batters.
