After finishing as the national runners-up the previous two seasons, the Cavaliers finished the season at 30-0. Virginia lost in the championship match to Southern California in each of the last two years.
Virginia won the doubles point to gain early momentum and led 2-0 and 3-2 before UCLA tied the match. Frank lost the first set at No. 3 against Adrien Puget, but bounced back to win 0-6, 6-4, 7-5.
The Cavaliers had reached the national semifinals six of the last seven seasons.
UCLA (29-2) was seeking its first championship since 2005.
