Reece Bledsoe and Jonathon Bledsoe, both of Lobelville, Tenn., took the fish by archery on Kentucky Lake in early April. The smallmouth buffalo weighed 68 pounds, 8 ounces and was 51 inches long. The new record fish surpasses the previous record of 64 pounds set in 2003, which also came on Kentucky Lake.
Kentucky Lake is a reservoir along the Tennessee River in Kentucky and Tennessee.
A new state Class B record also was set for the spotted gar last month. The spotted gar was taken by archery at Reelfoot Lake.
The criteria to be considered for a state record fish along with the new record application and instructions, state records and fishing license information are in the 2013 TWRA Tennessee Fishing Guide.
