Lewis (29-4) led the Lady Eagles to an 8-2 win over Dobyns-Bennett on Monday in the Region 1-AAA softball semifinals. She pitched a complete game and struck out 11 while giving up only five hits.
D-B’s Makaylah Darnell opened the contest with a walk but was stranded at third base. The only other time the Lady Indians made it to second base was during their lone offensive surge in the sixth inning.
With D-B trailing 6-0 entering the sixth, Madison Kilby singled and Abby Stratton followed with a home run over the left-field fence.
Kilby finished the night 2-for-3.
Seymour opened the scoring with single runs in the first and third innings, followed by four runs in the fourth. The Lady Eagles added two in the bottom of the sixth.
“We made a bunch of errors and that would have kept it closer. I’m not sure what happened. But I do know that we gave effort,” said D-B coach Andy Hubbard.
The Lady Indians totaled six errors on the night.
Seymour (38-6-1) will host Daniel Boone (36-6) in the Region 1 championship game Wednesday evening. The Lady Trailblazers defeated Jefferson County 7-2 on Monday to advance.
It will be a rematch from the Eastman Invitational. Seymour beat Boone 3-1 to advance to that tournament’s title game.
D-B, which had its season end at 25-18, will lose only three seniors to graduation.
“I’ve been well pleased with this season,” Hubbard said. “It has been a total team effort. Everybody contributed whether they were starting or not.
“Anytime you can make the regional playoffs, it is a good year.”
