The schools announced Thursday that the Wolverines and Hokies will play each other twice in the next decade. Michigan will face Virginia Tech on Sept. 19, 2020, at the Big House. The Hokies will host the Wolverines on Sept. 11, 2021, at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg.
“I am pleased that (Michigan athletic director) Dave Brandon and I have been able to work out this agreement,” Tech athletic director Jim Weaver said in a statement. “Michigan is the winningest college football program in the country, and it will be exciting to have the Wolverines come to Lane Stadium.”
The programs have never met in the regular season. In their only meeting to date, Michigan beat Virginia Tech 23-20 in overtime at the Sugar Bowl after the 2011 season.
The Hokies now have agreed to three future home-and-home series with teams from the Big Ten. In addition to the Wolverines, Virginia Tech will play Ohio State in 2014 and 2015 and Wisconsin in 2016 and 2017.
