The Buccaneers, who close out the regular season with six Atlantic Sun Conference games beginning Friday night at league-leading and No. 21 Mercer, got a strong outing from sophomore pitcher Jimmy Nesselt. Nesselt (2-1) made his first start since March 3 and tossed three no-hit innings, striking out three.
Junior Clinton Freeman led the Bucs' offense with a 3-for-3 night, including a triple, with two runs scored and four RBIs. Juniors Dylan Tritsch and Daniel Tucker had two hits apiece. Tritsch scored twice and Tucker had a two-RBI single in the second inning. Senior Derek Niesman extended his hitting streak to six straight games with an RBI single in the seventh and totaled three RBIs for ETSU (28-20), which jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the first three innings.
Lucas Clarke (2-4) suffered the loss for UNC Asheville (15-31) after allowing five runs on four hits in three innings.
