JOHNSON CITY — The eighth annual Tillinghast Invitational is set for June 1-2 at Johnson City Country Club. The event, the second stop on this year’s Tri-Cities Amateur Tour, once again is sponsored by Johnson City Honda. This year’s tournament coincides with the country club’s 100th anniversary. With this in mind, tournament chairman Jim Richardson and head professional Mike Crowe invited some honorary guests to participate in the event. “We reached out to past ETSU golfers and club supporters to see if there was any interest,” Richardson said. “We’ve gotten commitments from former Bucs golfers Skeeter Heath, Alan Strange and John McNeely along with long-time club supporter W.B. Greene Jr. “Each of these individuals has played a role in creating a history at Johnson City Country Club.” There is a cocktail party Friday night prior to the first round of the tournament to honor these men, and they are set to play an exhibition round Saturday morning. Entry fee for the tournament is $135 and includes both tournament rounds, lunch both days of competition and a practice round. Carts are available for $15 per day. The format is 36-hole stroke play with championship, senior and pre- flighted (handicap) divisions. The tournament is also a Level 2 TGA points event for amateur and senior amateur player of the year. “The tournament continues to grow each year,” Crowe said. “We have commitments from last year’s champion Mark Baggerly and our senior winner Tim Dinwiddie. “We’ve gotten a lot of good feedback on the tournament. There’s a mystique to the course and the players really enjoy competing here.” Call (423) 928-5161 or visit the Johnson City Country Club or TriCitiesGolf website for more information.
