DeLAND, Fla. — East Tennessee State senior right-hander Kerry Doane tossed his NCAA-leading eighth complete game of the year Friday night against Stetson, helping extend the Buccaneers’ Atlantic Sun Conference winning streak to seven straight with a 3-2 victory. Doane allowed two runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking two. After getting out of a jam in the eighth, he worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning. After the teams scored two runs each in the fourth inning, ETSU (22-13, 11-5) manufactured the game-winning run in the seventh. Alex Reynolds was hit by a pitch to lead off the seventh inning. Derek Niesman — with the Stetson infield playing in for a sacrifice bunt — capped the Bucs’ hit-and-run move to perfection by sending the first pitch he saw into right field for a single that moved Reynolds over to third. With no outs and runners on the corners, Reynolds scooted home for the winning run when Mason Hershey hit into a 6-4-3 double play. Seven different players accounted for the Bucs’ eight hits. Niesman finished with two.Dylan Tritsch extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games after going 1-for-4. He scored ETSU’s first run on Clinton Freeman’s RBI double in the fourth. Freeman later scored on an RBI single from Andrew Lasure. Josh Powers (1-5) took the loss for the Hatters (17-22, 6-7). ETSU looks to pick up its third straight series win Saturday. Game 2 is slated for a 2 p.m. start at Melching Field.
