MECC Foundation golf fundraiser in May

BIG STONE GAP — The Mountain Empire Community College Foundation and Auto World of Big Stone Gap will hold the Auto World-MECC Golf Classic on Friday, May 17 at Lonesome Pine Country Club. All proceeds from the event go toward scholarships for Mountain Empire Community College students. Registration for the captain’s choice tournament begins at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. The tournament will feature two flights and will have most accurate drive and closest to the pin prizes, as well as chipping and putting contests.Mulligan packages consisting of a mulligan, toss and red tee drive will be for sale for $10 per package. Any player hitting a hole-in-one on hole No. 10 will win a 2013 Chrysler 300 sponsored by Auto World of Big Stone Gap, and one player hitting within 12 inches of No. 10 will win a $1,000 prize. There will be hole-in-one prizes on all par 3s. Players may bid on quality items during a silent auction that will begin during breakfast, and they may enjoy delicious hot hors d’oeuvres and cocktails, along with a live auction of other quality items during the reception following the tournament. The entry fee of $100 per person includes breakfast, goodie bag, cart and green fees, range balls, post-tournament reception, and a chance to win door prizes. Hole sponsorships are available for a $100 gift to the MECC Foundation. Hole sponsors will be recognized in the golf tournament program and on the golf course.
