In football Scott has played at wide receiver and defensive back. He has been a post player for the Pioneers basketball squad. This spring, he is wrapping up his senior year on the boys track and field squad, where he is one of the region's leading competitors in the jumps.
Last year, Scott ended the school year with a second-place finish in the high jump in the VHSL Group A state track and field championships in Radford.
He won't have to wait until the state meet to have his mettle tested this year. Teammate Cody Cain stunned Southwest Virginia with a recent leap of 6 feet, 8 inches. It wouldn't be surprising to see the high-flying Pioneers pair pushing one another closer to the 7-foot mark before the season is over.
Times-News Sports Writer George Thwaites recently caught up with Scott at an area track meet for a short Q&A session. Here's what he had to say:Who is your favorite athlete?Michael Jordan. He's a respected player who has some of the best averages all the way around. He was a great offensive player and a great defensive player. No one has matched him. What's your favorite movie?
Probably “Fast and Furious: Fast Five.” It's the cars, mainly. I like those muscle cars.
Name your three ideal dinner companions.
The “Duck Dynasty” crew. Willie, Jase and Jep.
What would you be having to eat?
I'd like to try duck. They say it's pretty good.
Do you have any pregame or pre-meet superstitions?
Socks and compression shorts. I wash them, but I wear the same socks and same compression shorts to every meet. I tried something a little different this year but so far it doesn't look like it's working.
In a movie about your life, what actor would play you?
Channing Tatum. (laughs). I'm kidding. I really have no idea.
Who is your favorite super hero?
Iron Man. He's a rich playboy philanthropist. He's got money, cars, girls and the suit. He pretty much can't be beat.
Do you have any nicknames?
What is your favorite non-sports activity for recreation?
Probably just riding around on the mountain and stuff. Four-wheeling and riding ATVs and dirt bikes.
What do you think you'll do after you graduate?
I'll probably get lazy. (Laughs). Really, I'll probably just go to school and maybe lift weights. And work. I work at Dr. (Cheryl) Patterson's office. I do most of her painting and whatever else she tells me to do.
