JOHNSON CITY — Buccaneers hurler Kerry Doane, in what has become a routine outing, recorded another complete- game win for the East Tennessee State baseball team at Thomas Stadium. This time it was an 8-0 victory against Lipscomb on Friday in the opening game of their Atlantic Sun Conference series. Doane (7-1) allowed no runs on five hits and walk while striking out a career-high eight batters. His pitch count hit 122, with 81 of his pitches going for strikes. The senior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., lowered his ERA from 2.22 to 1.96 with his fourth straight complete game. After giving up a one-out hit to Griffin Moore in the third inning, Doane retired 12 of the next 14 Lipscomb hitters, recording six of his eight strikeouts during the stretch until Moore ended the hitless run with another one-out single in the eighth. In the ninth, Drew Adams led off the inning with a double to left and moved to third on Tyson Ashcraft’s hit, but Doane induced Joey Cecere into a game-ending 6-4-3 double play to complete the shutout. Doane, who pushed his NCAA-leading complete-games mark to seven, got all the offense he needed in the bottom of the first when ETSU (19-12, 8-5) plated two runs. Dylan Tritsch went 3-for-5 with a double and a stolen a base to lead the Bucs, who finished with 12 hits. Alex Reynolds and Mason Hershey knocked in two runs each, Trey York had a double, triple and RBI, and Andrew Green and Andrew Lasure added two hits each. Griffin Moore went 2-for-3 with a stolen base for Lipscomb (12-23, 3-7). Game 2 of the series begins today at 2:05 p.m. Right-hander Logan Rice takes to the hill for the Bucs, and righty Hunter Brothers gets the start for Lipscomb.
