KINGSPORT — Gate City’s baseball team took “taking one for the team” to the next level Tuesday night, and it helped the Blue Devils pick up their first win of the season.Technically, the Blue Devils batted around in both the third and fourth innings, but in reality, it was Eastside’s pitchers who were doing most of the hitting. Gate City managed just two hits over the two innings but used four hit batsmen, five walks and three Spartans errors to plate eight runs and turn a 3-0 deficit into an 8-3 advantage. The Blue Devils cruised from there to score an 11-4 victory at Hunter Wright Stadium.Gate City coach Robbie Perry was proud of the way his team dug out of an early 3-0 hole and chalked it up to his players adopting a better attitude after starting the season 0-4.“Last week we gave them some time off for spring break and told them to come back with a good attitude, and their attitudes have changed,” Perry said. For complete coverage of the game see the April 10 edition of the Times-News.
