KINGSPORT — After Tuesday night’s dispiriting 13-inning loss at Dobyns-Bennett, Sullivan South’s baseball team was anxious to get back into the win column. Fresh off a humiliating 20-0 defeat at the hands of Science Hill, David Crockett simply needed to recover some confidence. Both teams got some of what they needed Wednesday. The Rebels prevailed 9-5 to hold off the Pioneers in a Big 8 conference clash on the chilly brick dust at wind-blown Pactolus.“I was worried how we were going to come out today after last night,” said South coach Anthony Richardson. “Early on, we were sort of flat, which was expected. All of their legs were a little bit tired from last night.“Any win today, I was going to appreciate it and go on. I’m just pleased to get a victory here.” Rebel southpaw starter Andrew Copas (1-0) battled through the fatigue to pick up his first decision of the season. For complete coverage of the game see the March 21 edition of the Times-News.
