JOHNSON CITY — East Tennessee State women’s basketball coach Karen Kemp will not return after 19 seasons leading the Lady Bucs, News Channel 11 reported late Monday night. The university has scheduled a news conference for Tuesday on the campus, the TV station said on its website, WJHL.com.Kemp was named ETSU’s coach on Aug. 8, 1994, after successful stints as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Mississippi State and Chattanooga. Since taking over the program, she has posted 272 career victories, giving her the most wins in school history. Under Kemp’s watch, the Lady Bucs made three consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament and had one appearance in the NIT. However since the graduation of Sierra Evans and Taronda Wiles in 2010 — both Atlantic Sun Conference co-players of the year — the Lady Bucs have gone 16-39. Last week, in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Sun tournament, seventh-seeded ETSU fell to No. 2 seed Stetson 66-55. The Lady Bucs closed the year 8-18 overall.
