MADISON, Wis. — Former Sullivan South quarterback Curt Phillips has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA and will return for the 2013 season, University of Wisconsin officials reported Thursday. Phillips, a redshirt senior, took over as the Badgers’ starting quarterback in 2012 after starter Joel Stave was sidelined with a broken collarbone. Over seven game appearances in 2012, the 6-foot-3, 214-pound Phillips passed for 540 yards and five touchdowns, adding 99 yards rushing on 27 carries. He will be playing under a new head coach, Gary Andersen, in his final season after Bret Bielema's surprise departure for Arkansas.
