BRISTOL, Tenn. — “It’s easy to love winning, but to win takes mental toughness.”Dobyns-Bennett head coach Charlie Morgan hit the nail on the head with that statement. He had just watched his team fend off Martin Luther King 77-63 in the 30th annual Arby’s Classic at Viking Hall on Thursday.D-B (8-2) had built a 20-point advantage midway through the third quarter only to see the Lions rally and shrink the deficit to 61-57 with 3:36 left in the game. From that point on, the Indians hit 13 of 19 free throws to seal the deal.“I told the guys I guessed they didn’t want to see anybody leave early,” joked Morgan. “But we took care of the basketball down the stretch and made our free throws, that was the key.”With the win, Dobyns-Bennett moves on to meet Urspring, Germany, tonight at 8 o’clock in the quarterfinals. Urspring beat Father Henry Carr 54-39 to advance. For complete coverage of the game see the Dec. 28 edition of the Times-News.
