“Wow!” Wood reflected aloud on the air. “It’s hard to believe that this is my final Fishing Report.”
His final report consisted of his commentary on a series of fishing photos sent to him by loyal fans, including a muskie caught by Kingsport’s Wayne Mullins.
Wood added the popular weekly reports to his Thursday morning broadcasts in the winter of 1979. During his tenure with the Tri-Cities' NBC affiliate, Wood posted some of the highest ratings of anly local show in broadcasting history.
The iconic local newsman says farewell at noon today in a special final broadcast at the Paramount Center for the Arts. A packed house of fans and well-wishers is expected to turn out for the live show.
