KINGSPORT — After Chase Arnold’s 46-point explosion against Happy Valley on Friday night, Gate City’s boys basketball team didn’t know what to expect from the Golden Raiders.

So the Blue Devils just hit them with everything they had.

Gate City had four players in double figures and took a 83-51 win at interstate rival Sullivan North on Saturday night.

Andy Arnold scored 18 points to pace the Blue Devils (1-1), who opened with a loss against Abingdon on Friday.

Two of Arnold’s buckets were dunks. One was in transition off his own steal. On the other he went up flat-footed from the block off a wraparound give from guard Dylan Jenkins.

Luke Ervin scored 16 points and grabbed four rebounds for Gate City. Jenkins was a busy man, scoring 16 points while sorting out six assists, including a couple of crowd-pleasing blind passes.

The Blue Devils had 16 assists as a team. Nick Bowen scored eight of his 12 points in a first-quarter surge that left the Golden Raiders trailing 21-6.

North’s Arnold was held to seven points, at least partly attributable to Collier’s defensive shadowing and Andy Arnold’s imposing presence in the lane.
