Wise Central wins, Gate City loses in Borderline Classic semifinals

BRISTOL, Va. — In Friday’s semifinals of the Borderline Classic at Virginia High, Wise Central rallied for the win and Gate City rallied but came up short.

The Lady Warriors, down 10 points in the first half, came back for a 54-48 win over Cloudland.

In the nightcap, the Lady Blue Devils bounced back from a 10-point deficit with 4:34 to go in the game only to lose 47-45 to Unaka.

Gate City (1-2) will take on Cloudland (3-3) at 7 o’clock tonight in the third-place game. Wise Central (2-0) and Unaka (3-3) will play in the final at 8:30.

With Central scoring leader Logan Reynolds benched with her fifth foul with 4:40 to go, Hayley Wyrick took over, scoring the Lady Warriors’ final eight points of the game, including a 4-for-4 effort from the free throw line in the last 40 seconds.

Reynolds finished with 18 points and Wyrick had 15.

Brooke Rhodes led Cloudland with 18 points.

In the other semifinal game, Morgan Gose had 15 points and Jordan Gose 14 for Gate City.

Alicia Colbaugh and Kassie Winters had 11 points apiece for the Rangers.
