Boone second in state cross country meet

NASHVILLE — Mission accomplished for the Daniel Boone boys cross country team.After finishing fifth at last year’s TSSAA Class AAA meet, the Trailblazers were determined to move higher.On Saturday at the Percy Warner Steeplechase Course, Boone placed its first five runners among the top 22 finishers and came in second in the team competition.Brentwood won the AAA championship, tallying 52 points to the Trailblazers’ 61. The Science Hill boys were seventh with 242 points and Dobyns-Bennett finished 12th with 335.Aaron Templeton of Hardin Valley won the AAA individual title by posting a time of 15:52.67 over the 3K layout. Region 1 champion Quintin McKinnish of Morristown West was second in 15:55.31.Boone’s Roderick Bowman (16:04.98) finished fifth and teammate Adam Barnard (16:13.33) seventh.Runners who finished in the top 15 earned all-state honors.In the Class AAA girls race, Ravenwood took first place with 90 points. Siegel was second at 149. Science Hill (218) came in seventh and Tennessee High (249) was eighth.Siegel’s Nicole Gardner won the individual crown with her time of 18:4.13. Science Hill’s Molly Foster finished sixth after posting a time of 19:44.05.The Greeneville boys captured their second straight Class A-AA state title with a 93-108 victory over Martin Luther King. Sullivan East (198) came in sixth, followed by the University School of Johnson City (206) in seventh.MLK’s Sam Klockenkemper took the A-AA individual title with a winning time of 16:34.88. The Greene Devils’ Wes Pectol finished third in 16:38.44. Sullivan East’s Luke Meade (17:22.81) was ninth overall and teammate Dalton Hudlow (17:43.30) came home 14th.The girls of Christian Academy of Knoxville won their A-AA title by a 96-100 margin over Macon County. Greeneville (209) finished ninth with University School of Johnson City (281) 10th.Lipscomb Academy’s Barbara Ball won the A-AA race in a time of 19:09.42. Hannah Rhodes of Greeneville (21:03.81) was ninth.
