NORTON — J.I. Burton was a pretty beaten-up ballclub headed into Friday’s Lonesome Pine District showdown with Union at Lawson-Fitchko Stadium.

Ben Baugh, Jake McCray, Mekyah Davis and the Bears’ offensive line resolved to beat on them some more.

Union’s “Three Smashketeers” pounded out 348 yards on 61 collective carries as the physical Bears rolled to a 35-12 victory.

“When you’ve got running backs who can run hard and block for each other and your offensive line is blocking, some good things are going to happen,” said Bears coach Travis Turner.

McCray rushed for 83 yards on 13 carries for Union (6-3, 2-1). He initiated scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run with 7:51 left in the first quarter, adding a 17-yard TD run just four minutes later and a 16-yard scoring scramble in the third quarter.
