GATE CITY — Five seniors from Gate City’s volleyball team bid adieu to their home gym on Tuesday night.

But on their way out the door, Sydnee Snapp, Kaitlyn Whitt, Mary Whitt, Santana Bishop and Erica Fugate showcased the fast-paced offense responsible for putting so many championship banners in the low-slung rafters.

Fugate slammed home 13 kills and made three blocks, Kaitlyn Whitt distributed 33 assists and the Lady Blue Devils (23-2, 7-0) dismissed John Battle 25-17, 25-14, 25-19 in Clinch Mountain District action.

With the win, Gate City’s senior class improved to 94-17 with three Clinch Mountain titles, two Region D titles and a state championship to its credit. The postseason starts next week, and the Lady Blue Devils appear to be primed to add to their legacy.
