Easton, McKinnish run to Trailblazer titles

GRAY — The cream always seems to rise to the top at the Trailblazer Cross Country Invitational.Lebanon’s Mary Easton and Morristown West’s Quintin McKinnish proved to be the cream of the crop in the 40th annual running of the Trailblazer on Saturday.Easton, a sophomore, took control of the race after the second mile and finished first in a time 19:20.91 over the demanding 5K course. Science Hill’s Molly Foster was second at 19:22.99.McKinnish, the defending champion, left the rest of the boys behind, crossing the finish line at 15:39.70, 20 seconds ahead of runner-up Adam Barnard of Daniel Boone. Barnard finished in a time of 15:59.66.Led by sisters Chantal and Cherie Wilson, the Morristown West Lady Trojans cruised to a dominating 28-85 win over second-place Tennessee High. Chantal Wilson finished third overall in a time of 19:35.14, and Cherie Wilson was fourth in 19:35.97.Boone’s boys trounced the competition. With Barnard second and teammate Roderick Bowman (16:12.00) third, the Trailblazers had James Garst 12th (17:02.78), Jordan Roth 13th (17:03.64) and Chad Whitehead 14th (17:05.12).The Region 1 meet will be held at Boone on Thursday, Oct. 25.For the complete story, pick up a copy of the Oct. 14 edition of the Times-News.
