Hilltoppers continue to dominate Falcons

CHURCH HILL — Science Hill, the state’s No. 6-ranked Class 6A football team, defeated Volunteer on Friday night 49-7 to remain unbeaten and stay on course for a Big 8 Conference showdown with No. 4 Dobyns-Bennett.

Quarterback Reed Hayes, who concentrated on two other sports until this season, accounted for five touchdowns and 190 tandem yards in a game that spoiled the Falcons’ Senior Night.

Hayes threw for 104 yards and three TDs and scored on runs of 50 and 13 yards. The 185-pound senior kept the ball six times for 86 yards. He connected on 10 of 18 passes.

Since their series began, the Hilltoppers’ record against Volunteer is 16-0.
