Tribe girls open season with 4-2 win over Boone

KINGSPORT — Chris Woods began his second season as girls soccer coach at Dobyns-Bennett on Tuesday. The result was in stark contrast to his debut last August. More fun. Happier. Less stressful all around — at least for spells. A year after suffering a shock defeat to David Crockett in Jonesborough, the Lady Indians opened with a 4-2 win over Daniel Boone in what was a highly entertaining District 1-AAA match at Indian Highland Park. “I share this with the girls all the time. No matter how long I’m here, my first game for the girls is always going to be a loss to Crockett,” said Woods, whose first season in charge closed with a lukewarm record of 3-14-4. “That keeps me hungry and that keeps me working. “I know how hard these girls have worked in the offseason. My energy tonight wasn’t so much nervous energy; I just wanted it to go well for the girls because I know what they have put into this.” It indeed went well. It was also a test.
