KINGSPORT — Lee Tissot has been running up front at Kingsport Speedway all season long. Last Saturday night, Tissot put the skills he’s gained on display as he outran a deep and talented UARA-Stars field to pick up a win in the Courtesy Chevrolet 150. Tissot, who won the UARA-Stars points title in 2003, started on the outside of the front row and led every lap en route to the victory. But it was far from easy. Tissot had to hold off Kyle Grissom during a couple of late-race restarts to stay out front. Alex Yontz finished third, his best UARA result of the season. Brennan Poole and Coleman Pressley completed the top five. With just two points races remaining this season, action promises to be fast and furious Friday night. The top three drivers in the Late Model division are separated by just 15 points. Nate Monteith holds a six-point lead over Tissot with Daniel Pope II sitting in third. Six points is also the margin between first and second in the Street Stock and Pure 4 divisions. Jeff Counts is holding the lead in the Street Stock division, while John Ketron continues to sit atop the Pure 4 standings. All the local divisions will be in action during Friday’s Whelen Engineering Night at the Races. Volunteer Speedway BULLS GAP — With NASCAR racing set to take over Bristol Motor Speedway on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, Thursday night appears to offer a break in the action. But for those who love dirt track racing, Volunteer Speedway may just have something to fill “the gap,” so to speak. The Lucas Late Model Dirt Series will be in Bulls Gap on Aug. 25 for the annual Summer Scorcher with $10,000 earmarked for the winner of the 60-lap main event.
