PRINCETON, W.Va. — With just more than two weeks remaining in the Appalachian League season the Kingsport Mets have hit their stride — winning 10 of 11 and catching Elizabethton for the second playoff spot in the West Division.

The K-Mets put on a dominant performance on Sunday to beat the Princeton Rays 7-2 and sweep the series. With the win and a loss by Elizabethton, the Mets are tied with the Twins seven games back of division leader Johnson City.

Kingsport outhit Princeton 13-4, with Dustin Lawley leading the way with his 4-for-4 effort. Gregory Pron went 3-for-4, Juan Carlos Gamboa and Julio Concepcion recorded two hits each, and Luke Stewart added a two-run homer. Concepcion drove in three runs.

Mets pitchers were equally impressive, holding the Rays to just four hits. Rafael Montero (1-0) got the win with six quality innings, his lone mistake a two-run homer by Princeton’s Jake Hager in the sixth.

The K-Mets are off today before starting a three-game series with Johnson City on Tuesday. The first game is at home at Hunter Wright and the final two games are at Cardinal Park.
