BIG STONE GAP — Nine under par for his last 13 holes of the day.

Not bad for a part-time player.

Chase Kress went on a birdie binge Sunday to capture the 80th annual Lonesome Pine Invitational at Lonesome Pine Country Club.

Kress capped his day with a birdie on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff to beat Kingsport’s Brandon Worley for the title.

Starting the day five shots out of the lead, Kress finished with a brilliant 7-under 64 for a two-day 136. Worley birdied the par-4 18th hole for his second straight 68 to force the playoff.
