RADFORD — J.J. Kelly left-handed pitcher Christian Kunce has a nice pickoff move to first. In Friday’s VHSL Group A, Division 2 state quarterfinal baseball game with Lancaster, it was downright wicked.

Kunce struck out eight and picked off four, and the Indians collected a 5-3 win over the Devils at Radford University.

The Indians advanced to today’s 10 a.m. final, facing Honaker, a 21-1 winner over Appomatox. Tigers coach Tom Harding was not at the semifinal game after undergoing an emergency procedure.

Lancaster (21-7) got only five hits against the Indians (22-6). Kunce (9-4) walked four and plunked two. Erasing four baserunners with pickoffs in a two-run ballgame was a huge plus for J.J. Kelly.
