COEBURN — In Saturday’s Region D track and field championships, the Thomas Walker boys were as good as their namesake.

They were Pioneers.

A stellar performance by sophomore Cody Cain laid the foundation for Thomas Walker’s first Region D championship in track and field.

“A warrior. That’s what I call him in track and football. He refuses to quit, refuses to lose. He hates it,” said coach Rodney Ayers. “Usually a kid that gifted has a little arrogance and swagger to them. But he just goes about his work and does what he does.”

After collecting regional titles in the high jump (6-2) and the triple jump (43-¼), Cain went on to win the 400-meter dash (51.95) before adding a record-setting victory in the 200 (22.34).
