Hilltoppers down Tribe for second straight Region 1 soccer title

KINGSPORT — Home field is of little consequence in the Dobyns-Bennett-Science Hill soccer rivalry. For the third time this season the two archrivals met, and for the third time the visitor came away with a victory.

On Thursday at Indian Highland Park, the Hilltoppers got their sweetest road win of the year, beating the Indians 2-0 to capture the Region 1-AAA championship.

It was a total reversal of last week’s result when D-B went to Kermit Tipton Stadium in Johnson City and beat Science Hill 3-0 to win the District 1 tournament title.

“Tonight’s result goes directly back to that loss at home last week,’’ said Science Hill head coach Brandon Kind. “We needed that loss, we needed some humble pie. It reminded us that we have to work hard and work as a team if we want to be successful.’’
