Dobyns-Bennett belts six homers in win over South

KINGSPORT — Dobyns-Bennett saved its best for last in the Big 8 Conference baseball race.

The Indians completed their conference schedule Thursday night with an 11-2 victory over Sullivan South in a home run derby. The win clinched at least a share of the league championship.

D-B (24-5, 12-2), sporting a .367 team batting average with a penchant for the long ball, slammed six homers to extend its season total to 26.

Ryan Wagner’s Indians will have a special interest in the outcome of Science Hill’s trip to South next Tuesday. Should South prevail, D-B would win the Big 8 title outright. If not, there will be a tie for first place with the Hilltoppers getting top seed for the district tourney.
