Indians, Falcons break through in Eastman Invitational

KINGSPORT — Dobyns-Bennett’s softball team has been bitten hard by the injury bug so far this season.

But D-B coach Andy Hubbard is hoping the shot of confidence the Lady Indians received on the first day of the Eastman Invitational is just what the doctor ordered.

The Tribe generated plenty of offense in a 14-2 victory over Sullivan North before coming up with key hits when they needed them most in a 5-4 victory over Oak Ridge on Friday.

“I’m excited, especially after the last week or so,” Hubbard said. “It’s been a struggle, but we played well today.”

D-B’s bats came alive early against the Lady Golden Raiders. Cayley McCaslin had three RBIs against North, and Graeson McCaslin, Erin Russell, Stephanie Ash and Sarah Porter drove in two runs each.
