Top-seeded Lady Indians wither versus Battle press

CASTLEWOOD — J.J. Kelly’s top-ranked girls team had lofty ambitions. John Battle’s aims proved more down to earth.

In Thursday’s Region D, Division 2 tournament semifinals, John Battle relied on its athletic full court pressure to unravel the Lady Indians in a 48-32 victory.

“My girls came out today with something that I don’t know how to explain,” said John Battle coach Kevin Perrigan, whose program clinched its first state tournament appearance since 1998.

“It’s nothing I said to them. It’s nothing I could tell them to do. But they came out and played like it was the end of the world. It was the best we’ve ever played.”
